Currarong House is Ground Projects’ first home built using in-situ hemp, for designer Dominique Hage. The three-bedroom, L-shaped home brings together a considered material palette and a sustainably minded approach to construction, with hemp forming an integral part of the home’s performance and character.
Recycled hardwood, oxide render and organic paint were used throughout, with sustainable material choices at the core of the entire home. The hemp walling contributes to the home’s acoustic qualities and high efficiency, while creating a distinctive feeling within the spaces. The project was collaborative and hands-on – the home was partially built with friends, with a shared commitment to exploring a different way of building. It also highlighted the many benefits of hemp to our founders, including its insulation, acoustic and environmental properties, leading our team to develop Living Canvas Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) – a prefabricated walling system made from hemp.
